The UK’s annual Gas Safety Week 2021 is taking place from September 13th until September 19th. The week is all about about raising awareness regarding the importance of gas safety and the dangers that poor maintained gas appliances and carbon monoxide can present.

Gas safety is important 52 weeks a year but it’s not always a top priority for most people. Households take for granted that their boilers and gas appliances will just turn on and work when they need them. However, the reality is that unsafe gas equipment can put your life in danger. Gas leaks, fires, explosions, carbon monoxide poisoning – these are all very real and potentially fatal risks if appliances are left unchecked.

Are you a gas installer? Make sure you do your bit!

As always, gas installers, businesses and organisations are being encouraged to do their bit to raise awareness of the leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning that can happen as a result of poorly maintained gas equipment and appliances.

By taking part in Gas Safety Week 2021, your business will benefit from the following:

  • Corporate social responsibility: as a reputable and reliable gas installer, you have a responsibility to protect your customers and educate them on the consequences of carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Improve your brand awareness: all supporters of Gas Safety Week 2021 will appear on the Gas Safe Register website
  • New content: there is plenty of free gas safety materials you can use as part of your own campaign

Every year, the Gas Safe Register provides a free downloadable toolkit of materials in order for businesses large and small to support the national safety campaign. This includes:

  • Logos
  • Images
  • Social media updates
  • Web banners
  • Articles

Free hard copy leaflets and posters are also available to order.

Gas Safety Week 2021 will also be supported by The Safety Squad! Cartoon heroes who represent the diverse portfolio of gas work that is carried out by engineers in the UK, designed to engage the younger members of our country’s homes!

Doug is the original Gas Safe Hero. Introduced in 2014, he also now has Leon, who is qualified to work on domestic and commercial appliances such as smart controls, Aisha, who specialises in landlord gas safety checks, maintenance and repairs, Bob, an all-rounder who has worked in the industry for over 35 years and Olivia, a sole trader who repairs boilers in the winter months.

Top tips to keep your customers, tenants or family safe

There are a few very simple tips your customers can follow to minimise the risk of CO poisoning, leaks or explosions:

  • Ensure that their gas appliances are checked every year
  • Check that the gas engineer chosen is Gas Safe registered and qualified for the type of work required
  • Know the warning signs that indicate that their appliance is faulty
  • Learn the six main symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Make sure they have an audible carbon monoxide alarm

Pledge your support today!

You can sign up to Gas Safety Week 2021 in a matter of minutes – once you have, Gas Safe Register will keep you informed of how you and your business can be part of this incredibly important national safety campaign.
