The National Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS) is the industry recognised route for gas engineers to gain a certificate of competence required to become a member of the Gas Safe Register. These courses are available from your local ACS centre, such as Gas Training & Assessment Ltd.

Once you have completed your CCN1, the appliance assessment relevant to your work can be taken. This may be one or more of the following:
The Gas Safe Register is the official list of gas engineers who are qualified to legally work on gas appliances and equipment. In order to join the Register you must have achieved all relevant ACS certificates in the areas you want to work in.
You are able to apply once you have received your certificate of competence from your local ACS centre. You will be required to complete a probationary period of three months if you are newly qualified or have let your registration lapse. During this period you will need to keep a record of all work, which the Gas Safe Register will inspect. You will also be required to notify them when it comes to certain tasks, such as the installation of an appliance.
