Vic Knight bids farewell to Gas Training & Assessment

After over twenty years with Gas Training & Assessment, partner Vic Knight is retiring

A word cloud with the word retirement in the middle.
As 2019 draws to a close, Gas Training & Assessment will soon be saying goodbye to more than just the end of the year. After more than twenty years with the business, partner Vic Knight will be hanging up his boots on December 31st and taking early retirement.

Here at Gas Training & Assessment, we would like to take a little trip down memory lane…

After completing an apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering in the late 1970s, Vic went on to have a number of roles working for the Ministry of Defence (MoD). These roles included design draftsman, purchase engineer, engineering manager and project engineer.

Vic left the Ministry of Defence in 1997 to become a self-employed plumbing and heating engineer. Luckily for us, one of his first jobs involved him working at the newly-opened Gas Training & Assessment centre (GTA) in Basildon. To begin with, he was tasked with setting up the centre but his excellent work and ‘can do’ attitude so impressed then-owner John Harrison, that he was asked to teach part time at GTA.

Four years later, Vic became a partner alongside John and two of them built Gas Training & Assessment into one of the UK’s leading gas training and assessment specialists until John retired in 2017. David Lambert became Vic’s new partner and together they have successfully ran GTA for the last two years. As David says, “Vic’s nickname is Vicipedia as he is a fountain of knowledge! We have a saying: ‘If Vic doesn’t know it, it’s not worth knowing!’”

And now, after well over twenty years, Vic will be bidding farewell to Gas Training & Assessment as he takes a very well-deserved early retirement. He will be sorely missed by everyone at GTA – staff and customers alike – although we are delighted to know that he will continue to keep in touch with the centre (and has threatened to pop in from time to time to keep us on our toes!)

Gas Training & Assessment will continue to operate with David at the helm, who is incredibly proud of the legacy he, Vic and John have built.

From everyone at Gas Training & Assessment, we would like to thank Vic for all his effort, enthusiasm, patience and good humour over the years, and wish him all the best for the future. It’s been an absolute pleasure.

And to all our staff and customers, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you in 2020!
