Gas training courses Fobbing – the local area

Fobbing is a small village that is located between Basildon and Corringham. It is one of seven conservation areas in Thurrock and first appeared as ‘Phobinge’ in the Domesday Book of 1086.

Fobbing was one of the villages involved with the Peasants’ Revolt in 1381, with its leader, Thomas Baker, born in Fobbing. St Michael’s Church is renowned for its association with the smuggling trade as it was once near Fobbing Harbour’s waterfront. Apparently there were numerous tunnels used by smugglers in the 14^th century.
