Gas training courses Dagenham – the local area

Dagenham is in East London, approximately nine miles east of central London. Merged with Barking to form one combined borough in 1965, it was one of only six to host the London 2012 Olympics.

Up until the early 1960s, Dagenham was part of Essex and it wasn’t until 26,000 houses were built in 1921 that is turned from a farming village into an urban district.

Dagenham was chosen as a location for industry – it is well known for the Ford Dagenham sewing machinists strike of 1968.

There were once five manor houses in Dagenham; dating back to the 13^th century, Valence House in Beacontree Avenue is the only one that still survives.

The Roundhouse public house is famed for its rock music credentials. Between 1969 and 1975, it welcomed legends such as Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Status Quo, Supertramp and Jethro Tull.
