Gas training courses Braintree – about the local area

Braintree is a town in Essex, located close to Chelmsford (10 miles) and Colchester (15 miles). It dates back over 4,000 years and was inhabited by people during the Bronze and Iron Ages, the Romans and the Saxons. From the 14^th to late 19^th century, Braintree was known for processing and manufacturing woollen cloth. Sadly the Great Plague killed 865 out of the 2,300 people who lived in the town.

Modern Braintree has two market areas, a shopping area called Braintree Village (formerly called Freeport) and two railway stations.

Braintree is twinned with Pierrefitte-sur-Seine in France; it is also the inspiration for Braintree, Massachusetts and Braintree, Vermont, which are both in the USA.
