About the area – Billericay

Billericay is a town in the borough of Basildon, Essex. It is considered a commuter town as it lies only 25 miles east of London and has been populated since the Bronze Age.

Billericay has a rich history encompassing the Bronze and Iron Ages, the Middle Ages in the 13^th and 14^th century, the Pilgrim Fathers in 1620 and the Georgian and Victorian eras. In 1916, during World War I, a German Zeppelin airship was shot down, narrowly avoiding Billericay High Street.

In more recent times however, it is probably best known as being the setting of Gavin Shipman’s parents’ house in Gavin & Stacey, although in reality, filming took place in Wales!

London is easily reachable on the Abellio Greater Anglia Route, with trains reaching Liverpool Street Station in the capital.
