Employment chances after complete gas engineering course

Employment chances after completing gas engineering course

In today’s turbulent economy, school and college leavers are thinking long and hard about their career choices to prepare themselves for the challenge for finding work. While employment in many sectors has experienced decline, there is renewed hope that now that economic recovery is quickening, confidence in the market will increase and a greater number of firms will feel ready to hire new faces.

The domestic gas industry, in particular, has been described by some commentators as ‘recession-proof’ and whether this is or isn’t the case, there’s certainly one fact no-one can dispute: homeowners will always require the services of a professional gas engineer. And now the housing market is showing encouraging signs of growth, there’s even more reason to consider a career in the domestic gas industry.

Recent research by Populus for AA Financial Services has revealed that one third of those borrowing money this year are planning to spend it on home improvements. The survey also showed that four in ten people wanted to make changes to their home this year.

Whether a homeowner decides to invest in a new boiler, build a conservatory, create an extension or convert a garage, nine times out of ten they will require the professional skills of a gas or heating engineer to fit new radiators, underfloor heating or carry out boiler installation or maintenance. Regardless of whether a homeowner decides to project manage the building work themselves, when it comes to heating appliances and gas, there’s no way of cutting corners and appointing a qualified professional engineer to carry out the work safely is a legal responsibility.

The huge explosion in renewable energy is also positive news for the heating sector. As more and more households adopt greener energy solutions such as solar panels , further work will be available for heating engineers who choose to specialise in solar energy.

Here at Gas Training and Assessment, we already run a two-stage course which prepares trainees to join an approved solar installation scheme. The initial phase covers the installation, inspection, commission and servicing of unvented hot water storage systems while the second concentrates on solar domestic hot water systems and installation requirements. This industry-recognised course provides all the training necessary for those with ambitions of working in the renewable energy sector and gives them a competitive edge when it comes to seeking employment.

Like most careers, the best opportunities await those who can demonstrate passion, flair, and skill in the work they undertake. There can be no guarantees in any profession that study will lead to work and those courses which do promise employment are mostly making false claims.

Our own trainees receive excellent professional guidance and practical support to help them establish themselves within the industry and our tutors are always available to share their experience and advice. One of our core aims is to increase standards of safety in gas and heating engineering in the UK by deliver high-quality training. We also want to secure our trainees a long and prosperous career by investing in their future.
